The Museumplein is a public area in the Museumkwartier neighborhood of Amsterdam-Zuid, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Museumplein is home to three main museums – the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum – and the Concertgebouw Concert Hall. The field was initially a wax candle manufacturer and a marshy meadow. Work began after the construction of the Rijksmuseum in 1885, with a street plan focused on the style of Pierre Cuypers, the renowned architect of the museum. The region was the venue of the International Colonial and Export Exhibition in 1883.
