Orlando International Airport is a large public airport situated six miles (10 km) southeast of downtown Orlando, Florida, USA. In 2019, MCO served 50,613,072 travelers, rendering it the busiest airport in Florida and the busiest airport in the United States.
The airport continues to serve as a hub for Silver Airways, a hub for JetBlue, Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines, and a hub for Frontier Airlines. Southwest is the airport’s largest passenger carrier. The airport is also a significant international hub for the Mid-Florida area, with over 850 flights a day on 44 airlines. The airport’s code MCO refers to the airport’s previous name, McCoy Air Force Base, installation of the Strategic Air Command (SAC), which was demolished in 1975 as part of a broader military action after the Vietnam War.
